Gum treatment

Periodontium by definition refers to the tissues surrounding the tooth. The two diseases that affect most frequently the gum are: gingivitis and periodontitis. This latter is a more advanced stage of gum disease with bone loss leading to tooth loss.

Several studies have shown a link between gum disease and general health problems including heart and blood diseases. Bacteria are the main cause of periodontal diseases and diseased gums are a gateway directly into the blood.

To avoid such problems, it is important to be assiduous in your routine examinations, according to the frequency suggested by your dentist. If the diagnosis is made, we can treat gum disease, especially to slow down its progression, by what we call curettage.

If you observe inflammation in your gums or bleeding when brushing, it might be the beginning of gingivitis. Do not wait to make an appointment at the Centre Dentaire St-Joseph by calling (450) 649-4448.
